Green Tea
Green tea has been used as a home remedy and to improve health for centuries, but it has grown in popularity in recent years for the cosmetics industry too. It has many benefits for skin, including soothing irritation, helping to reduce sun damage, and smoothing fine lines.
Antioxidants help to prevent free radical damage, and therefore fine lines, whilst catechins have antibacterial properties that help decrease acne. As well as this, green tea can reduce inflammation in the pores, and this inflammation is associated with acne. So, with its soothing, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, skincare products containing green tea can be a great active to use in a routine for calming acne and breakouts.

Where do I use green tea in my skincare routine?
Green tea is most commonly used as an ingredient in masks, as it has great detoxifying properties. It is also used in serums as the antioxidants work well in these higher concentration formulas.
It is an easy ingredient to bring into your routine as it soothes sensitive skin and so shouldn’t cause any adverse reactions.
What to look for on product labels…
Green tea is often listed as its Latin name, cameillia sinesis. As usual, to make sure you’re getting a high concentration of the active ingredient, you should choose skincare products that have it as one of the first ingredients on the list.
